Raymond Finley Jr., 42, was sentenced in Lake County District Court last week to 20 years in the Montana State Prison with 10 years suspended after pleading guilty in January to one count of child sexual abuse.

According to court records, in the months of July and August 2017, Finley used social media to solicit sexual images of a 13-year-old girl identified as “Jane Doe.” Finley is also alleged to have tried to entice the juvenile into meeting in person and possibly sharing marijuana.

The victim’s mother testified during sentencing that her daughter went from being an honor student full of life to a recluse. The mother also testified that her daughter is re-victimized by Finley’s extended family bullying her while at school. The mother said “I believe Mr. Finley is a manipulator and predator .... if he gets a chance, he’ll do it again.”

Lake County prosecutor Brendan McQuillan said a pre-sentence investigation showed Finley was a tier 2 sex offender meaning he is a “moderate risk” to re-offend.

District Judge James Manley ordered Finley to successfully complete phase I and II of the state’s sex offender treatment program before being eligible for parole and pay restitution in the amount of $12,762. The restitution will go to past and ongoing therapy for the victim.

Finley was given credit for 178 days already served. Two other counts of sexual abuse of a child were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
