Editor,

This is not a Democrat or Republican issue. No one individual should have the power to take the USA into a shooting war or a trade war. The consequences of either war severely affect the lives of more than 326 million Americans. An elected leader should lead and not dictate. We all know it is not feasible or desirable to have the entire Congress vote on every action the President proposes, but there must be a way to protect our great country from a man-made disaster. A friend jokingly said electing a woman would eliminate man-made disasters. That being said, the Congress should prioritize devising a method which would not eliminate all powers granted the president but quickly advise him of what negatives could result from his actions. If it were an advisory council it would have to be small in number, bipartisan and readily available to the president on a moment’s notice.
