News from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services

MOIESE – Prescribed fires are on the schedule at the National Bison Range this spring. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is partnering with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Division of Fire, and two units have been prepared for controlled burns between April 1 and June 1. Approximately 1,900 acres of fire dependent habitat, including portions of the upper Elk and Pauline Creek drainages, along with grassland on the west end of the Prairie Drive will be burned using a combination of hand and aerial ignition tactics.

For safety reasons, short-term delays or closures of the auto tour routes could occur when the burns are being conducted. Current information will be posted on our Facebook page at:

If you have questions regarding these prescribed burns, please call 406-644-2211 x217 or 406-675-2700 x6452.
