ST. IGNATIUS – At the Amish School site on Allison Road, the children were more interested in the baby goats than the Saturday, April 14, benefit auction. The adults, however, busily bid on items bringing in about $28,000.
Toby Yoder helped organize the event. He said people in the community donated many “quality items” for the fourth annual auction to raise money to help people in need. “We had a very good turn out this year to help with the cause,” he said. “Our goal is to help people in need and spread the love of Jesus Christ.”
Among hundreds of items sold, a storage barn became the highest priced item. Also up for auction were two dinners for 20 to 25 people. Yoder said those were popular items. “They sold for $1,300 and $1,700.” Other items included a picnic table, saddle stands, a gun case, a coffee table, and a few goats.
People in the Amish community auctioned off items to benefit their Western Anabaptist Mission Service project. Since 2013, the faith-based group helped repair nine homes damaged by fire, four in Washington, two in Idaho, and two in Hamilton, Montana.
At this time, they don’t have a specific project to put the money into, but this fall, they will again start looking for people that have been affected by wildfires.
“We are also looking for people that are in desperate need of help,” he said. Yoder asked that people call 406-552-7772 if they would benefit from help, including things like a load of firewood.
