An 83-year-old Polson man was sentenced by Judge James Manley at District Court in Polson on April 25 to the Montana State Prison for 20 years with 10 years suspended after earlier admitting to sexually assaulting two young girls.

Lewis Croft was initially charged with felony counts of sexual intercourse without consent and sexual assault. As part of a plea agreement Croft pleaded guilty to the amended charges of sexual assault-felony and sexual assault-misdemeanor.

According to court records, between the years 1993 and 2005 Croft on innumerable times and at regular intervals subjected a girl, identified in court records as Jane Doe 1, who was between the ages of 4 and 16, to sexual intercourse without consent. Another girl, identified as Jane Doe 2, says she was subjected to sexual assault by Croft between the years 2005 and 2007. Jane Doe 1 remembered a specific time when she was 16 hearing Croft coming to her bedroom and the distinct sound his wooden leg made on the stairs.

Due to his age and that Croft must complete phase 1 and 2 of the state’s sex offender treatment program before being eligible for parole, he will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.
