A Bigfork man was committed by Judge James Manley at District Court in Polson April 25 to 15 years with the State Department of Corrections with 12 years suspended after he pleaded guilty to sexual assault in February.

Scott David Curry, 49, admitted to sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy on multiple occasions. Curry was initially charged with three counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent exposure for acts that occurred between Oct. 1 to Oct. 15, 2017. In exchange for his guilty plea to the single count of sexual assault, Lake County Deputy Attorney Brendan McQuillan agreed to dismiss at sentencing two counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent exposure.

In the plea agreement signed in February, McQuillan was recommending 40 years in prison with 30 years suspended with the defense being reserved the right to argue for a lesser sentence.

McQuillan says Curry’s criminal record shows a prior conviction of sexual assault on a minor in the state of California.
