“Montana Moose: Biology, Management and Research” by Jesse Newby will be Mission Mountain Audubon’s next educational program on Thursday, 10 May at 7 p.m. in the Polson Library Meeting Room. Everyone is welcome.
Moose are among the most emblematic animals of the north. However, many areas where they are considered iconic, such as Minnesota and New England, have seen recent population declines. Like these areas, Montana is along the southern edge of moose range and concerns about potential declines have emerged over the past several years. These concerns have motivated efforts to better monitor moose populations and understand the factors influencing moose. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks initiated a 10-year moose research project to develop effective monitoring tools and better understand moose populations ecology in the state. Jesse Newby will present information on moose biology along with an overview of this research to date.
Jesse Newby works for Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks as a wildlife research technician primarily tasked with moose research. Jesse’s 20-year career in field research has also included many other species, especially large carnivores.
