News from Lake County JSEC

The Lake County Job Service Employer Committee (JSEC) is excited to announce the winners of the 2018 Ken Rohrenbach Scholarship: Brooklin Hunt and Michael Vergeront.

Brooklin is a senior at St. Ignatius High School. She has completed a Broward Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital externship, attended the Cornell University Captive Raptor Management Summer College, volunteered at her local vet clinic, completed online veterinary assistant training, and maintained a 3.9 GPA. She plans to attend Montana State University to study Pre-Veterinary, Fish & Wildlife Management, and Ecology with the goal of becoming a veterinarian. Brooklin was also nominated by the committee for the statewide Fred Unmack Scholarship.  Michael is a senior at Polson High School. He has been deeply involved as a volunteer in the Special Education and Special Olympics programs. He is known as a leader in his high school.  Michael excelled on the school soccer team, maintained a 4.0 GPA, and spent his summer vacation volunteering in India. He plans to attend Evergreen State College to study Interdisciplinary Studies - Humanities.

These two $1,000 scholarships for graduating high school seniors from Lake County are named after the late Ken Rohrenbach. Ken worked for the Montana Job Service, served on the Polson School Board for 17 years, was a volunteer firefighter and an ardent supporter of all school activities. The Ken Rohrenbach Scholarship honors students who have shown community involvement, determination, and have overcome adversity. Applications for the 2019 scholarship will be available in the spring of 2019.

JSEC is an advisory committee comprised of area employers and representatives from the Job Service with the goal of identifying and addressing the needs of the business community.
