News from Black Mountain Software

POLSON — Black Mountain Software is proud to announce its 30th anniversary as a leading developer of local government fund accounting and utility billing software.

The company has grown from a small software firm to a nationally recognized supplier meeting the information management demands of local governments across the nation, including more than 50 percent of Montana counties and 150 schools throughout Montana and Alaska.

Black Mountain Software began in 1988 as the creation of Helena’s own Wayne Carriere, who developed technical software products for nearby cities and towns, much to their benefit. In 1991, he began collaborating with another software company based in Polson. This company was co-founded by Jack Liebschutz, who developed a municipal fund accounting system. In 1993, the two ventures combined and incorporated as Black Mountain Software, Inc.

The company’s initial success showed a growing need in Montana for easy-to-use, efficient, timesaving software tools that could benefit local governments and schools by meeting their accounting demands. Seizing the opportunity, BMS developed and introduced several software products with integrated computing functions that improved both accounting accuracies and processes. By 1995, Black Mountain Software had become Montana’s vendor of choice for the majority of cities and towns with populations between 500 and 10,000.

Black Mountain Software’s commitment to deliver effective accounting and utility billing software solutions is reflected in their constant upgrades to existing products. “Client satisfaction and meeting their ever-changing needs through software enhancements that expand functionality and address regulatory requirements are our primary objectives,” says Heather Neff, president of BMS.

“In addition to this commitment, we develop and maintain long-term client relationships by providing efficient, effective solutions, and excellent client support. These services help our clients learn to apply BMS tools specifically and with more accuracy to their particular organization.”

BMS does not outsource any product design or development, including software engineering and client  support.
