Summerfest car show turns heads

POLSON – The blazing heat was no match for the more than 100 antique and classic cars, trucks, sports cars and street rods that lined up and down Main Street downtown Polson on Saturday.

“We had an excellent turnout,” Mission Valley Cruisers president Ron Millstead said.

The one-day car show is annually hosted by the Mission Valley Cruisers and Anderson Broadcasting.

The show featured a wide variety of cars but was dominated by classic American muscle cars like the Chevy Camaro, Chevelle and Ford Mustang.

One of the more unique vehicles on display was a 1951 Chevy coup with a 427 big block nicknamed “Wild at Heart.” The car got its name shortly after owner Curt Ethington purchased it. “I built it for my daughter to give to her,” Ethington said. “She is kind of wild at heart, that’s how it got its name.”

Ethington said he’s been working one day a week for the last 15 months on the build project. “I am not completely finished but that’s where I’m at,” Ethington said pointing to the car parked along Main Street with a group of admirers looking at it.

To add a personalized touch to the hot rod Ethington noted, “I had my daughter take a picture of a tattoo on her side and had it painted on the glove box.”

For his efforts, Ethington won the best street rod/hot rod trophy.

In this year’s car show, special custom-made trophies were given to participants in different categories including muscle, classic and hot rod and an overall best in show winner was selected.
