POLSON – One man was killed and two passengers were seriously injured in a crash about two miles outside of town around 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10.

Patrick Allen Pierre lll, 38, of Ronan and Pablo, was driving a Ford Mustang in the south bound lane on Kerr Dam Road near Back Road and mile maker two when he passed a vehicle, returned to his lane. Pierre then drifted back into the northbound lane and collided head on with a Chrysler Town and Country minivan, according to Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Chan Berry. Pierre was killed in the crash. The passenger in his car was seriously injured and flown to the hospital. Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said a toxicology report isn’t yet available.

Mary Ouellette, 61, of Polson, was the minivan driver. She was reportedly less than a mile from her home when her car was hit by the Mustang. She was flown to the hospital after being extricated from her car. Her son, Jean Paul Ouellette, created a fundraiser for his mother on Facebook, called the Gerry and Mary Ouellette Relief Fund.

He said his father, Mary’s husband, Gerry, arrived on the scene as the paramedics were taking her to the hospital. Mary’s arms, legs and pelvis are broken in many places. She also had lacerations on her liver and spleen. “She is now at Harborview in Seattle and, after many surgeries, and more to come, will have a long recovery,” Jean Paul said in a post.

Within two days, the fundraiser was up to $10,235 of the $20,000 goal that will help sustain the couple financially as Mary recovers. More than 100 people donated to support the Ouellettes during the weekend after the crash.
