‘Conservation’ ratings a joke

Editor,

After reading a letter in your opinion pages regarding Janna Taylor’s “environmental rating” with a couple of Montana environmental groups, I felt compelled to respond. Seems as though she received very low ratings from two conservation groups.

I am a relative newcomer to Montana (2008), and I cherish our wildlands, wetlands, water and wildlife. Responsible stewardship of these is very important. I am also a Republican. These principles are not mutually exclusive, as I’m sure many Montanans would agree. But, please keep reading.

In preparing to vote in the general elections in November 2010, I was curious to see which State candidates the Montana Conservation Voters would support or endorse. There were approximately 125 state representatives and senators’ seats to decide. Of these, not one of the candidates endorsed was a Republican. It goes beyond the pale that, in their opinion, no Republican holds our beautiful Montana environment dear. I could only conclude that the Montana Conservation Voters group is now just another puppet of the Democrats and liberals, aka the ACLU, SEIU, AARP, Planned Parenthood and many more. There can be no other conclusion drawn (not one Republican endorsed).

So, my condolences to Janna and others for their failure to garner the favor of this and probably other “conservation” groups. These folks may have started years ago as apolitical, but they are certainly not now, and every Montanan should be aware.
