VICTOR — Walter Ray Davis (Kayo), 56, of Victor, passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at home with his partner, LeeAnn Scheffer, and brothers, Jim Davis and Rob Davis, by his side. He was born Feb. 18, 1962, in Ronan, the son of Donald Ray Davis and the late Geraldine Davis.

Walt was raised in Ronan on the family ranch, where he and his brothers worked and played. Their family enjoyed hunting, camping and especially racing. Walt graduated from Ronan High School in May of 1980. After graduation he attended the University of Montana. Walt met Margot and they were married in 1992 and she preceded him in death.

His family grew up around racing. In the early 2000s, Walt fell in love with autocross, which in turn his brothers, uncles, dad, mom, LeeAnn and step-kids all participated in. Walt was still active in racing until his passing. His last race was run a few weeks ago with his brothers, dad and numerous friends by his side.

Walt had a love for hunting and fishing with many, many memories. In 2017 he was able to get his bull elk with the help of his stepson, Robert Brandenburg, and his grandson, Billy Brandenburg.

Walt loved living in the Bitterroot. With work and racing he has numerous friends all over the state of Montana. Walt was always eager to lend a hand to anyone in need.

In 2010, LeeAnn and Walter began their life together. He became a very loved member of the family, always willing to go to all the sporting events. Walt particularly enjoyed cheering on the Victor Pirates in football. He spent many hours watching kids and grandkids participate in basketball, wrestling, baseball, rugby and rodeo. Camping, fishing and hunting were cherished family memories. Walt also introduced the boys to racing in autocross.

Walt worked for the State of Montana Department of Transportation for 27 years. He had great pride in the fact he had worked on roads all over the state. Walt served in the National Guard from 1982 to 1998. He was a staff sergeant serving on M1 Abram Tanks.

Walt was preceded in death by his wife, Margot, and his mother, Geraldine Davis.
