ARLEE –“We have neglected the truth that a good farmer is a craftsman of the highest order, a kind of artist,” American novelist Wendell Berry wrote.

The intersection of art and agriculture is the subject of the new Killdeer Artisans Guild show at the Hangin' Art Gallery.

“Season of Harvest” features paintings of produce, portrayals of farmers at work, and autumnal scenes.

“It feels really good to put up a show that’s a celebration of life and harvest,” said Marti de Alva, Artisans Guild member and artist.

De Alva said that it was natural for artists to put together a show that celebrated food and its cultivation, as local food is a central component of the Arlee community.

The photographs displayed in the show portrayed local farmers in their fields. Two of her pieces were experiments designed specifically for the theme. De Alva framed photographs of farmers with handmade paper. On the paper, she handwrote songs and passages about the importance of agriculture.

Visitors to the Saturday opening of the show enjoyed snacks and art. Artists of all styles and levels of experience have work in the show. The Hangin' Art Gallery is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
