News from the Northwest Accordion Association

POLSON — Wow! The last two months have been awesome for the Northwest Accordion Association gatherings. We had 44 people attend in October and 46 in November. Thank you all for coming. It was so much fun having you all there.

We had a young lady from Germany last month, who came in and said she could play. It was so fun to see her up there even though she didn’t know our songs too well. She played the base part, sang a little and looked like she was really enjoying herself.  She was here from a long way across the world.

This is what our association is all about: bringing people together to play, to learn by getting up on stage with the more experienced players, dancing, socializing, or just listening to the music. We will have flyers out so watch for them in businesses and senior centers up and down the valley.

Sunday, Dec. 2, from 2-5 p.m. is the date and time for our Christmas party at the Elks on Main Street in Polson. Betty Carter has asked that everyone who can bring finger food type snacks to share. Also, wear Christmas colors if you have them. Neither one is a requirement so please come. There will be plenty for everyone. you have any questions, please contact Betty Carter at 406-260-6590.

Accordion, guitar, banjo, violin, mandolin, etc. instrumentalists are all welcome to come and play. Singers who sing country or accordion-type music are encouraged to come with or without an instrument and to bring a mic and amp if you have them. All those playing instruments do have to have their own equipment and are also encouraged to bring a mic and amp if you have them.

We especially encourage our younger students and young adults who would like to get some experience on stage to come and play with some of the more experienced accordion players. If you play - you don’t pay to get in. Everyone sings and plays in rotation.  If you feel uncomfortable in playing in front of people we would be happy if you would just come in hopes that in time you will feel more comfortable. The main thing is to come, build your confidence and enjoy the afternoon with us. Please bring your family. This is a community function and you do not have to be a member of the Elks or the Accordion Association to come, play, sing, dance, listen and enjoy some really nice music. If you like to waltz, polka, two-step, cha-cha, etc., or just want to come and listen you are all welcome.

Admission is $2 for Accordion Association members, $3 for non-members and $5 if you would like to become a member. For adults, drinks are available for purchase in the bar. The bar also has soft drinks for sale. We do have a great time together, so please come if you can. Hope to see you all again in December.
