POLSON – Rivers West Auction is excited to bring the 2019 Montana Auctioneers Association Convention and Bid-Call Championship to Polson for the first time on Friday, Jan. 25, and Saturday, Jan. 26. The competition is held in different towns across the state each year, and Polson was chosen for this year’s event.

Held at the Red Lion Ridgewater Inn and Suites, auctioneers throughout the state will attend two full days of informational sessions led by speakers from the National Auctioneers Association.

One of the biggest draws to the annual event is the “Bid-Call Championship.” This will take place on Friday evening, featuring auctioneers from throughout the state in a live auction scenario selling real merchandise to the audience.

Band members Dan, Mike and Kelly of “Shodown” will kick off the evening on Friday at 4:15 p.m. by playing acoustic music leading up to the 6 p.m. contest. Cocktails will be available throughout the duration of the event, and the public is welcome at no charge.

A group of select judges will be scoring the contestants in a range of categories. The top four categories are introduction/ appearance, body language, clarity of chant and how likely each judge would be to hire that auctioneer to work for them.

Folks are urged to arrive at the ballroom early to get registered with a bid card and view all the merchandise available for bid. For those avid auction-goers that have a schedule conflict and are not able to attend, online bidding will be available at riverswestauction.com. Facebook will also carry a live stream of the entire competition on the Montana Auctioneer Association page.

Topics ranging from ways to conduct successful auctions, negotiating, sales and even legal issues involving auctions will all be on the agenda. For folks that would like to stay overnight following the contest, the Red Lion is offering a discounted room rate, while they last. Contestants may register at montanaauctioneers.org or at the hotel registration desk.
