Children in schools on the Flathead Indian Reservation are working with professional writers to create poems during weekly workshops developed by the Missoula Writing Collaborative. Caroline Keys worked with Ronan fifth graders and the Arlee fourth and fifth graders. This poem is by Jaydence of Ronan. It is the first of 12 poems.
Winter Time

in my back yard
gets really cold
but we don’t care
we play in the flesh
of the snow
we bury
each other
and it gets real
cold
