Editor,
I am writing this letter in frustration and disappointment with how the Salish Kootenai Tribes let Ahoy Leasing treat its tribal members. Tribal members who were referred to Ahoy Leasing by Tribal Social Services, Indian Health Services and the Department of Human Resource and Development for obtaining Social Security benefits have been misrepresented. Their rights were violated and they have been disrespected.
We went before the tribal council, more than once, to complain about how their members have been treated by Ahoy Leasing. They had Tribal Social Services interview the tribal members and listen to their complaints. After everything was said and done, the council turned around and awarded Ahoy a new contract. “What are they trying to tell us? That Ahoy Leasing is more important to them than us?” We, the members, are why you have jobs and are on the tribal council. You are to represent us and protect our rights. If anybody violates our rights, they should be terminated, no questions asked.
The tribal chairman said he would look into these matters and get back to us. It has been two months or more since he made this promise: no letter, no phone call, nothing.
Ahoy’s lawyer sent me a letter saying that if I didn’t cease and desist and quit slandering them and soliciting Ahoy’s clients, they will be forced to file charges against me.
My answer to that is “Put up or shut up.” This way the clients will have a chance to confront you face to face in a court of law.
