POLSON – Just eight hours north in Saskatchewan a trio of vocalists is working hard to make their voices be heard across the continent.

Rosie & the Riveters will make their U.S. debut in Polson on March 8 at 7 p.m. at the Polson High School auditorium. Students 18 and under are admitted free and adult ticket prices are $13 in advance or $15 at the door.

Even though they take their name from the iconic image of the World War II poster of a working woman with a red headband, this Rosie & the Riveters is no throwback band. In a recent interview, a member of the trio, Allyson Reigh, said their lyrics are fun but they also carry the message of empowerment.

“Our goal is to perform some really great fun family music and uplift women and girls,” Reigh said. “We are working against the old stereotype of women.”

The group formed in 2011, connecting through social media. There were so many opportunities for male musicians to connect, but Reigh said opportunities for female musicians were and are still limited.

Don’t let the red lipstick and pin curls fool you. The group embraces its femininity but tosses in playfully defiant lyrics and nails the three-part harmonies.

“We are moving to a more modern look. We still have a three-part harmony and influences from the past, but we are continuing to grow. The audience we spent time building in Canada has been along on this journey with us,” Reigh said.

Even though they have not yet toured the states, their music has been celebrated in Canada, getting lots of radio airplay and climbing to the Canadian Billboard charts to the number three position.

Rosie & the Riveters donates 20 percent of their proceeds to women’s projects around the world. To date, they have donated more than $13,000 to help fund 325 women’s projects.

“Our message has always been about supporting women and providing an opportunity for young people to have a different narrative than the one we have been culturally trained to believe,” Reigh said.

The show is being presented by Mission Valley Live and is the second-to-last show in the season. The final show for the 2018-19 season is O Sole Trio – “Bravissimo Broadway” set for April 5 at the Ronan Performing Arts Center.
