RONAN – Student representatives in four fourth-grade classes at K. William Harvey Elementary expressed appreciation for the Ronan Police Department by delivering a basket filled with treats on Thursday afternoon.

April Uhrich, a student in Ms. Anderson’s class, enjoyed delivering the basket with others in her class. “It made me feel nice inside,” she said, “because we are showing our appreciation for our hometown heros.”

The students in each class picked a community group to honor as part of an ongoing project in leadership. Previously chosen groups include Ronan ambulance drivers, the St. Luke Community Healthcare nursing home and the Ronan Fire Department.

Eternity Vincent, a student in Ms. Youngren’s class, said her favorite part of the project was when everyone got together to work on making the baskets. The basket delivered to the Ronan Police Department was filled with snacks as well as a few treats for the canine officer with the department. Students also made custom thank-you cards and pictures for the occasion. Ronan Chief of Police Ken Weaver said it meant a lot to him to have the students appreciate the officers.
