Is it spring yet? After what seems like the longest winter ever, the library crew is ready for a great spring and summer. So let’s ditch the winter coats, find the sandals in the back of our closets and gear up for a ton of fun at the library.

To kick off our May events, local author Maggie Plummer will take us on a road trip through the 1970s in her latest novel, “Bell Bottom Gypsy.” Join us on Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m. in the library meeting room for a reading and book signing.

A perfect hobby for indoors and out, embroidery decorates fabric using a needle and thread. Join us each Tuesday in May at 2 p.m. to learn the basics, cross stitch, crewel and more. All supplies will be provided or you can bring your own.

We have added new digital magazines to Flipster this month. Willow and Sage, Fons and Porter’s Love of Quilting, Flea Market Décor, Audubon and Pioneer Woman Magazine are all available to you, along with other popular magazines, for free with your library card. You can access Flipster by clicking on the link on our website. If you aren’t sure how to use Flipster or would like more information on services the library offers, join Heather on May 21 at 2 p.m. for a computer basics course on library services. She will walk you through the many online services the library offers and will give you the skills you need to use them.

Got a fine? Now you can pay online. Access your account from our website and take care of those fines through PayPal.

Angela has decided that it’s time for a vacation. Join her using “Travel Across America Color by Number,” on an adult coloring journey across the country. As always, supplies and refreshments will be provided for this program occurring on May 23 from 2-4 p.m. in the library meeting room.

What better way to spend a Friday night than at the library watching a movie? Join us on Friday, May 24, at 6 p.m. sharp for a recent Disney live-action release about a favorite British nanny. You can find more information about the movie on our website or by calling the library.

To end the month and begin the next, our Friends of the Library will hold a used book sale on May 31 and June 1 in the library meeting room from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Come to the library to peruse thousands of books that are for sale – you never know what you might find.

Need a gift for your bookloving mom for Mother’s Day? We have added some fun new items to our gift shop from “Out of Print.” All proceeds go toward projects at the library.

The library is open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit our website: www.northlakecountylibrary.org, or our Facebook page, and check the Valley Journal calendar section for updates on the happenings at the Library.
