RONAN – Sixty-five graduates earned diplomas from Ronan High School for 2019. The commencement ceremony was held on Sunday afternoon at the school.
Three students picked up high honors this year. Valedictorian Kara Holmlund encouraged people to live in the moment during her speech. Co-salutatorians Tiana Ulutoa and Aurrora Watkins each gave a speech thanking family and community. Watkins said that life doesn’t need to be perfect because “some of the best memories” had been made so far when nothing was going right.
The “Big G” award for overcoming great obstacles to receive a diploma was give to Shakira Burrafato. Teacher Jessica Johnson gave the commencement speech and encouraged the graduates to find solutions to current-day social problems. During the ceremony, the honors choir, high school choir and the jazz band performed before the diplomas were handed out.
