News from CSKT

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Wildlife Management Program announce the availability of the 2019 Ferry Basin elk and Little Money bighorn sheep hunting permit applications to interested CSKT Tribal member hunters.

Permit applications will be available at the Tribal Division of Fish, Wildlife, Recreation and Conservation office at 406 6th Avenue East in Polson, the Natural Resources Department office at 301 Main Street in Polson and at the Tribal Complex in Pablo. Applications will also be available on the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Internet website as a document. The application must be printed, completed, signed and mailed or dropped off at one of the permit application pickup sites listed above.

Hunting elk and bighorn sheep within the Ferry Basin and Little Money Wildlife Management Units is restricted by hunting, fishing and recreation regulations for tribal members. The Tribal Council sets these regulations and annual harvest quotas.

The elk hunting season in the Ferry Basin Wildlife Management Unit will open on Sept. 1 and end on Dec. 31. A quota of 30 elk permits will be available for the Ferry Basin Wildlife Management Unit drawing. There is no limit on the cow elk harvest and no permit is required; however, a cow elk harvest must be reported within seven days to the permit office at 406-883-2888.

The bighorn sheep season for the Little Money Wildlife Management Unit will open on Sept. 1 and end on Nov. 30.  A quota of eight bighorn sheep ram permits and two bighorn sheep ewe permits will be available for the Little Money Wildlife Management Unit drawing.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday, July 24, by 5:30 p.m., with no exceptions. The drawing will be held in August and successful applicants will receive their permits in the mail.

For more information regarding the Ferry Basin elk or Little Money bighorn sheep application process or hunt, contact Shannon Clairmont with the Tribal Wildlife Management Program or Stephanie Gillin with the information and education program at 406-883-2888.
