ARLEE – The excitement began as the chutes flew open at the 39th Annual Fourth of July Rodeo at the Arlee Rodeo Grounds on Thursday.

Rodeo fans were kept on the edge of their seats as they watched local cowboys and cowgirls compete to see who could hang on the longest during the high-flying action of the bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding events.

Other events featured during the Hendrickson family-operated rodeo were tie-down roping, team roping, barrel racing and junior rodeo events.

Arlee team roping duo Cody Morigeau and Dakota Desjarlais placed second with a 14.50 second time. Zanen Pitts took first place with a 14.76 second time in the calf roping event, and Trapper McAllister took second place. Hallie Sohr placed second in the ladies breakaway roping event.

A 73-point ride by Arlee cowboy Tyler Friend won the ranch bronc event followed by Ronan cowboy Camron Brown who scored a 69-point ride for third. Friend also walked away with a first-place cash prize in the saddle bronc event with a 72-point ride, while Arlee cowboy Charlie Lytle held on for a second-place finish with a 67-point ride. Elmo cowboy Kordell Walker took third place.

Hailey Weible of Charlo raced to a second-place finish in the barrels with a time of 15.03 seconds. Clancy Bingham of Arlee was in third place, and Grayson O’Conner of Arlee took fourth.

In the bull-riding event, none of the contenders rode to the eight-second scoring time, so the bulls were the victors for the Kail Hitchcock Memorial Bull Riding event.
