MONTANA — On July 3, the Montana Office of Public Instruction received notice that the U.S. Department of Education has approved Montana’s amendment to our state plan under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act.
The amendment provides a definition for “ineffective teacher” as required by ESSA and shows supporting evidence that low-income and minority children are not served at a disproportionate rate by ineffective teachers.
“I want to thank the federal Department of Education for honoring Montana’s system of local control in education,” said Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen. “This amendment focuses on ensuring that all Montana children have an opportunity to learn from high-quality educators while giving local school districts control over what a high-quality educator means to their community.”
