ELMO – The 42nd Annual Standing Arrow Powwow started on Friday and continued until Sunday night, bringing people together to celebrate.

Dancers clad in regalia continued traditional dances while teams of drummers from all over the United States and Canada pounded out songs in unison with the accompanying vocals. “The drum is the heartbeat and central pulse of the Native American powwow,” said Regina Mad Plume.

The celebration started with a grand entry featuring flag bearers and royalty followed by a procession of dancers. The teams of drummers stationed around the perimeter of the dance floor took turns leading the drumming for a specific dance. Adults, kids, families and elders took part in the celebration.
