Three Two Eagle River players scored in double figures in the 62-46 win over the Stephens Eagles of Wyoming, as Two Eagle River pulled away in the second quarter and wouldn’t give up the lead. The Eagles traveled to Billings for the season-opening Southern Classic Tournament last weekend.

Artie Mendoza tallied a game-high 17, Marcus Brown scored 12 and Skyler Rossbach added 11.

The next day the Eagles downed Northern Cheyenne 63-46. Mendoza led the team again with 19 points, followed by Brown with 14, Rossbach scoring 12 and Malatare with 3.

“Artie really attacked the baskets,” head coach Clayton Malatare said and added that the team played better than expected. Malatare said at practice the week prior, the teams’ shooting was off, but the Eagles regained their offensive edge in Billings.

In addition to good shooting, Malatare contributed 10 assists, and defensively, Brown tallied 21 rebounds in both games.

On Thursday, the Eagles travel to Hot Springs and play Noxon at home on Friday.
