CHARLO – The Charlo Lady Viking volleyball squad defeated the Arlee Scarlets in three straight sets 25-6, 25-16, 25-14 during their last match.

“I feel we are starting off pretty strong,” said Charlo head coach Rhondell Volinkaty. “The girls put in a lot of work over the summer and it shows.”

Although the Scarlets moved up to Class B this season, the match still had a rivalry feel. Volinkaty said her girls were pumped for the game. “It’s always going to be a rivalry no matter what class the girls are in.”

In the opening set, the Lady Vikings wasted little time in grabbing an early lead and a 25-6 set win. In the opening minutes of the second set, each side furiously traded points; however, it was the Lady Vikings who prevailed 25-16 to take the set and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Bouncing back in the third set, the Scarlets dominated the set as much as 11-4 before Charlo battled their way back to win the set 25-14 and the match 3-0. At the end of the game, Volinkaty said: “Everyone played well. The win was a real team effort.”

The Lady Vikings had 13 aces with Kassidi Cox scoring seven of them. “I feel our serving was phenomenal tonight. Kass did a great job,” said Volinkaty.

Charlo’s Carlee Fryberger had eight kills and 18 digs. Kira McPhail had two blocks, Liev Smith floored eight kills and Connor Fryberger contributed 18 assists for the Lady Vikings.
