POLSON – Concerned that you might wind up feeling like a plump turkey packed with gravy and stuffing after Thanksgiving dinner? Then dust off your running shoes and shed a few extra calories before heading to the table with a Thanksgiving morning run during the 12th Annual Turkey Trot 5K.

Dubbed the “wobble before you gobble,” this three-miler is hosted by the Polson Running Club and offers both walk and run options for participants of all fitness levels.

The club started the holiday run as a way to encourage families, friends and the community to participate in a healthy activity before the big turkey feast. The Turkey Trot has become a local Thanksgiving tradition for many families.

On Thanksgiving Day, race registration opens at 8:30 a.m. at the Century 21 Real Estate office parking lot. The official race start time is at 9:30 a.m. sharp, according to the Polson Running website.

More than 100 expected entrants will start their run, walk or stroll near the intersection of U.S. Highway 93 and State Highway 35 and follow the racecourse east along Highway 35 through the Mission Bay area before looping back to the start/finish line in front of the real estate office.

Proceeds from the $5 Turkey Trot race entry fee will be donated to charitable programs within the Mission Valley that work to eliminate food disparities and insecurities. Last year, the Turkey Trot raised more than $850 in support of the Polson Loaves and Fish Food Pantry, an organization that helps people in need of food. According to race organizers, many runners donated non-perishable and canned food items along with their entry fees.
