ALBANY, NEW YORK – Readers in Montana who love murder mysteries, athletes who relish carving turns on a pair of skis or a snowboard, or folks who live for the social activities after a day on the slopes, will enjoy Murder on Skis. It’s a thrilling new piece of fiction, set in Montana and written by former television anchor Phil Bayly.

Bayly said he began writing “Murder on Skis,” while he was watching the sunrise at a ski area in Montana, more than 20 years ago. The story is told through the eyes of JC Snow, a journalist who also manages to squeeze in his hobby of ski racing. Bayly was a self-proclaimed “mediocre ski racer” for 30 years.

The novel, published by Shires Press, is set at a fictional ski area called Grizzly Mountain, somewhere in Southern Montana. There, a TV reporter investigates a strange sequence of lives lost in the resort community.

“I hope that any murder mystery fan will enjoy this book,” said Bayly. “I couldn’t find a work of fiction written for adults set in the world of skiers and snowboarders, so I decided to write it myself. I think the book is a fun read and offers a fusion of personalities and places reflecting ski life across America.”

A graduate of Colorado State University, Bayly began visiting Montana in the 1970s. His brother lived in Bozeman, while attending Montana State University, and now lives in Livingston. “Some of my real-life adventures in Montana, over the years, are turned into fiction in Murder on Skis,” explained Bayly.

Bayly was an anchor and reporter in television and radio news for more than 40 years in Colorado, Wyoming, Pennsylvania and New York. He covered everything from forest fires and presidential primaries to murders and the 9/11 terror attacks at Ground Zero. He even got to cover some World Cup ski racing.

Bayly was born into a skiing family in Evanston, Illinois, just outside Chicago, “and when the last bell rang in high school” moved to Colorado. “I pursued a career in TV and radio, but I always insisted that I was a ski bum with a good job,” he joked.

‘“Murder on Skis’ is something I’ve been tinkering with for more than 20 years,” said Bayly. “I think it’s time to share my story with readers.”

Scheduled for release late November, the book is available for sale BarnesandNoble.com, and Amazon.com.
