Andrew Joseph Bybee, 38, of Polson, entered a plea of not guilty at District Court in Polson on Jan. 8 to several felonies, including felony strangulation of a partner or family member, felony assault with a weapon and three counts of privacy in communications, one being a felony.

According to court records, Bybee was at a storage unit in Ronan on Dec. 1, 2019, when he and the alleged victim had an argument that escalated into a physical altercation. The victim told investigators that Bybee put his hands around her neck and attempted to strangle her.

On Dec. 10, 2019, Bybee and the same alleged victim had an argument at her residence. The victim said Bybee threatened to kill himself with a gun and she had to wrestle it away from him, and then  he allegedly came at her with a knife.

Charging documents further allege that on Dec. 11 Bybee left the victim numerous text and phone messages calling her several derogatory names. One message referenced scaring the f*** out the kids and telling her to answer the phone or he would make things worse.

Court records show Bybee with a history of drug use and domestic violence.

Judge James Manley set the case for trial on June 15. Bybee remains in the Lake County jail with bail set at $50,000.
