Charlo takes 4th place in tournament

The Charlo Lady Vikings battled their way to a fourth-place finish during the Western C Divisional tournament last weekend in Frenchtown.

Charlo opened the tournament on Thursday evening with a close 31-29 win over the Manhattan Christian Lady Eagles. The 14C district champs fell behind early to the Lady Eagles, trailing 12-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Charlo girls were still down 20-18 at halftime, but Charlo outscored Manhattan Christian 7-4 in the fourth quarter to come up with the win. Carlee Fryberger paced the Lady Vikings with a game-high 17 points.

On Friday evening, the Lady Vikings fell in a close 45-40 game to the Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks, who were the eventual Western C Divisional Champions.

Charlo was up 10-9 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 23-19 at halftime. In the second half, the Lady Viking outscored the Lady Blackhawks 14-8 in the third quarter; however, a 14-7 scoring run by the Lady Blackhawks in the fourth quarter gave Seeley-Swan the win. Charlo senior Destiny Manuel scored a team-high 11 points.

In loser-out action on Saturday morning, Fryberger scored a game-high 13 points and Liev Smith scored 11 points as the Lady Vikings defeated District 14C rival Hot Springs Lady Savage Heat for the fourth time this season 38-32.

Playing in the consolation game Saturday afternoon for third place, the Lady Vikings faced Manhattan Christian Lady Eagles for the second time in the tournament. The Lady Eagles took an early 14-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in a 41-28 win over the Lady Vikings. Smith scored a team-high 11 points for the Lady Vikings who finished the season with an overall record of 20-2.
