POLSON – Get ready for a fun-filled evening of laughter, music and magic during this year’s Mission Valley Has Talent competition on Friday, March 13, at the Polson High School Auditorium.

The Mission Valley Children’s Choir will open the annual fundraiser talent show, while Tribal Waves will perform a traditional Maori war dance. Local magician Ken Avison will entertain the audience with his sleight of hand, quick wit and humor.

In addition to the opening and headlining acts, the show will feature the singing, dancing, comedy and musical performances of more than a dozen Mission Valley area residents who are vying for the top prize of $250 in three age categories.

Now in its third season, the Mission Valley Has Talent competition has raised more than $10,000 for the ecumenical project Helping Hands Fund. Since 2004, when Helping Hands Fund was established, the fund supported by local churches, organizations and individuals has responded to more than 45,000 requests for assistance.

Assistance from the Helping Hands Fund is given in the form of vouchers for food, gas, temporary lodging, clothing, utilities and transportation. The project also helps with short-term needs such as personal-care bags, hygiene products and household supplies. Newer projects include the Community Cradle Project, Backpack Project and the Holiday Giving Project.

Last year’s show received great reviews from the community, according to event organizers. The winners last year included Team Xtreme members Tile Falkner and Tua Meafua, who carried away first place in the adult category with their acts of strength. Gaelic Thunder, a bagpipes and drumline group, rocked the house for second place last year, and humorist Gen Huitt had the crowd in stitches with a third-place finish.

The $10 tickets ($5 for age 18 and under) are available for presale online at missionvalleyhastalent.com or at Polson businesses Sweet Bliss and Perfect Shots. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the event with the show kicking off at 7 p.m.
