News from St. Luke Community Healthcare

LAKE COUNTY – At St. Luke Community Healthcare, we value mothers and the impact they have on our communities. They foster the lives of others; often putting their own needs aside. We recognize this role comes with challenges, but those challenges can be compounded by drug use, mental health issues and past trauma.

The Meadowlark Initiative, which is funded by the Montana Healthcare Foundation, seeks to address challenges expectant mothers and families face. St. Luke Community Healthcare recently received a $130,000 grant from the Meadowlark Initiative to better support moms and families, using a coordinated, team-based approach to care. These funds assist providers in offering the “right care at the right time,” improving maternal and family outcomes, reducing newborn drug exposure and keeping families together.

St. Luke will utilize this funding to continue the mission and vision of Wrapped in Hope, a community collaborative that provides “wrapped around” services in order to guide women through a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery with continued support for mom and baby during postpartum recovery and pediatric care.

Through Wrapped in Hope, moms who struggle with addiction or mental health issues, such as depression or anxiety, will receive care from a clinical team, comprised of their doctor, behavioral health staff and a care navigator. This standardized approach is already succeeding in other parts of the state.

“St. Luke’s overall objective is to wrap all expectant mothers in hope. Generous funding from the Meadowlark initiative will allow our obstetric doctors to mobilize a caring and committed care team who support all moms, especially those who struggle with addiction and mental health issues throughout their pregnancy,” says, Steve Todd, CEO of St. Luke Community Healthcare.

Additional information about this program can be found on St. Luke’s website at www.stlukehealthcare.org/wrapped-in-hope/. Expecting moms are encouraged to set up care or schedule an appointment with their primary care physician early on during their pregnancy. Call St. Luke at 406-676-4441 if you are looking to establish care with a provider. Together, we can improve the health and well-being of our community, one generation at a time.
