FLATHEAD RIVER – Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies and search and rescue crews were called to the Buffalo Cliffs on July 18 after it was reported that a man went under the water.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said that Dayton Conrad, 21, was swimming with a friend before the accident. Conrad was reported to have jumped from the cliffs and into the water and was unable to swim to shore. “Conrad was last seen being pulled under the surface of the water by the current,” Bell said.

Search efforts following the incident were unsuccessful. On July 23, at 11 p.m., Conrad’s body was recovered from the Flathead River near the Buffalo Bridge. “The family asked the Sheriff’s Office to pass on their gratitude to all who assisted in the recovery,” Bell said.
