News from Lake County Sheriff Don Bell

LAKE COUNTY – Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the report of a shooting in the alley behind a bar in Pablo on Aug. 4 at about 9:45 p.m. It was reported that a disturbance had taken place.

A resident, from a house adjacent to the alleyway, had a knife pulled on him by another male. The resident then shot the male who was holding the knife. The man who was shot was transported to a local hospital and later flown to a hospital in Missoula.

The man who shot him has cooperated with the investigation and was released after the preliminary investigation. Further investigation is underway by Lake County Sheriff’s Office detectives. The Ronan Police Department and Flathead Tribal Police assisted in the response and investigation of this incident.

In other news, Allen Ray, 73, is still missing. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office continues to look for Ray. He was reported missing after separating from his friends while picking berries in the Schwartz Lake area of the Mission Mountains, south of Ronan.

Search efforts have included the Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Rangers, Lake County Search and Rescue personnel, on the ground, and Two Bear Air Rescue in the air. No sign of him has been found. There were reports of sightings of him after the initial missing person report, but none of these have been substantiated after further investigation. More ground search efforts are currently being planned and conducted.
