News from the North Lake County Public Library District

POLSON — The library is hosting a new popup exhibition from the National Archives; “Rightfully Hers” commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

On April 24, 2020, NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope celebrated the 30th anniversary of its launch aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery. In honor of that occasion, a stunning new Hubble image of the cosmos was released. Our library was selected as one of a limited number of locations across the nation to host a banner of the Hubble 30th anniversary photo for the public, sponsored by the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, home to Hubble’s science operations center. Everyone is invited to visit the library to view this beautiful image up close. You can find downloadable resources and a gallery of Hubble’s most iconic images, at: https://hubblesite.org/hubble-30th-anniversary.

The library has gone fine free on most items. As of Aug. 8 there will be no daily fines for most overdue items. You are still responsible for returning items on time. Items overdue by 30 days or more will be considered lost and you will be billed for the item, a processing fee and an administrative fee. For more information, visit our website.

We now have Wi-Fi hot spots and laptops available for check out. The library has three laptops and three T-Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspots available for our patrons.

The 2020 census: Have you filled out the census yet? The library has a dedicated computer for you to use if you need a computer and Wi-Fi connection to complete the questionnaire. It takes less than 10 minutes and will affect our community for the next 10 years.
