ST. IGNATIUS — The St. Ignatius Senior Citizen’s Center board is looking at options for opening the center for in-house meals. Barb Plouffe has sent the proposal for reopening to the Lake County Health Department and we are waiting for a response. The board meeting is on Sept. 8, so we will get the news out to participants as soon as we have an update. One possibility is to open mid-September. Another is to open for meals in-house once a week.  Please let us know if you have any ideas and preferences. The staff and volunteers have missed the fun times that were shared and I look forward to meeting every participant in person.

Our center’s answering machine has certainly improved communications. Please continue to leave messages when no one is available to answer calls.

Meals will be provided on Tuesday, Sept. 8, the day after Labor Day, if needed.  Let us know.

The center is still looking for a Meals-On-Wheels delivery driver. Hours for this job are 11:30 a.m. until around 1 p.m., depending on the route and the weather. The pay is $25 per day. We provide the vehicle. Please call the center if you are interested.

The menu:

—  Friday, Aug. 28: Spanish rice/chicken bake, black beans, salad, cookie bar

—  Tuesday, Sept. 1:  sloppy Joes, tater tots or fries, cottage cheese, fruit, brownies

—  Wednesday, Sept. 2: roast beef dinner, mashed potatoes and gravy, veggie, rolls, cook’s choice dessert

As always, many thanks to our cook, Michelle McLoughlin, for her cheerful energy and delicious food, and to our fabulous volunteer, Kay Krantz, for her invaluable assistance.
