News from Polson Police Department Sergeant George Simpson

POLSON — Chief Wade Nash thanked two citizens for their heroic actions on Aug. 18. He presented them with letters of recognition for heroic citizenship and Polson Police Department coins as a small token of appreciation for their service.

“We work with our community and for our community, as we are part of the community,” Nash said. “These recognitions are examples of just how spectacular the great people of Polson are.”

On the afternoon of Aug. 8, Kristyn “Kris” Siciliani heard sirens in her apartment complex and went outside to see what the commotion was about. She came across an officer performing CPR on an unconscious male. As a retired nurse, she immediately offered her assistance and began helping the officer with CPR for approximately eight minutes before the patient began breathing on his own and was transported to the Saint Joseph’s Medical Center emergency room.

The patient made a full recovery, and, no doubt, Siciliani’s lifesaving efforts were a contributing factor. “On behalf of the citizens of Polson, thank you Ms. Siciliani for your service. Partnerships such as this make Polson a safe and pleasant place to live, work, learn and play,” said the Polson Police Department.

On the afternoon of Aug. 8, Michael “Mike” Schallock was driving through town on U.S. Highway 93 and witnessed a horrific vehicle crash. A pickup truck and van were totaled beyond repair. Schallock, without hesitation, stopped with other citizens to assist.

Schallock cut away the side curtain airbags, got into the truck and began stabilizing an occupant as best he could while the person experienced a grand mal seizure. Schallock made the area around the person as safe as he could inside the crashed vehicle. He continued an assessment of the occupant once the seizure was over, and stabilized the head and spine so arriving first responders could remove the person safely from the crashed vehicle.

The individual is on the way to recovery due to Schallock’s quick thinking, professional training, and selfless devotion to this community. “On behalf of the citizens of Polson, thank you Mr. Schallock for your service,” the department said.
