News from the Chief Cliff VFD

DAYTON – The Chief Cliff Volunteer Fire Department is holding its annual Dayton Daze fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the spacious Dayton Park.

Pioneering the West is the theme of this year’s costume event, and attendees are encouraged to dress up to join in the fun. Whether participants mask as a homesteader, outlaw, dance-hall person or anything else, the whole family will be guaranteed an afternoon of fun, festivities and fundraising.

This event has taken place every year since 1991 and kicks off at 9 a.m. with a craft bazaar at the Dayton Presbyterian Church. The Chief Cliff Volunteer Fire Department activities begin at noon with a silent auction, rifle raffle, craft fair, kids’ games, free hot dogs and cookies.

A fun new addition to this year’s event will be a dunking booth, provided by the Dayton School, which is working to raise additional funds for the coming school year. Also new for this year will be a history booth featuring a video collection of vintage photos from the area and copies of “Chief Cliff Country,” which is a collection of biographies and stories of the families who helped settle this area.

The parade starts at 2 p.m. with the line-up starting at 1 p.m. Prizes for best entries and best costumes will be awarded.

Mark your calendars for a fun, family-friendly event. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available, and social distancing is encouraged.
