News from CSKT Division of Fire

FLATHEAD RESERVATION – The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes’ Division of Fire along with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes would like to thank the area volunteer fire departments for their response to the People’s Center fire last Sunday night.

“Without their quick response the fire could have been much, much worse,” said CSKT Division of Fire officials. “They saved some tradition and culture.”

Local area volunteer responders were from the Ronan Volunteer Fire Department, the Polson City Volunteer Fire Department, the Polson Rural Volunteer Fire Department, Finley Point Volunteer Fire Department and Charlo Volunteer Fire Department. Mission Valley Power also responded to the fire.

“It was Labor Day weekend and these first responders showed up and did what they could to minimize the damage to the building and its contents,” officials said.

In other news, fire officials want to remind the public that debris burning is closed for fire season. Debris burning season will open Oct. 1. People will not need a permit to burn from Oct. 1 to Nov. 30.

“While there are no restrictions at this time, we urge people to be careful with campfires and check for restrictions before recreating in the outdoors,” officials said.

If anyone has any questions, call the CSKT Division of Fire at 406-676-2550.
