Donald Oswell Owen

POST CREEK – Don Owen passed away at his home on Post Creek hill on February 26.

He was born September 20, 1938 in Malta, Mont. to Oswell Kenneth and Mary Johnson Owen. Don moved to the Mission Valley with his family in 1942, settling on the family ranch at the rim of Post Creek hill, overlooking the lower Mission Valley. He attended St. Ignatius schools, graduating in 1956, then headed for Bozeman to acquire a bachelor's and master's degree in agriculture education from Montana State College (now MSU). His first teaching job was at Belfry, Mont., and he then spent 26 plus years at Columbus High School, teaching agriculture, and advising the FFA chapter. Don received several awards for his service to the Future Farmers of America chapters and organization. After retiring from teaching he returned to the family ranch in 1990, joining his dad and uncle Raymond raising beef cattle.

Don was pre-deceased by his father and mother, and uncle Raymond, as well as his sister Margaret Dilworth.

He is survived by his brother Kenneth and Louise Owen, of Puyallup, Wash., and 12 nieces and nephews scattered primarily around the western states.

Memorial services will be 10:30 Saturday morning March 26, at the Mission Valley Methodist Church on Hwy. 93, right across from the Owen ranch. Don will be interred at the family plot in the Ronan cemetery with his grandfather Ralph Melvin Owen. Shrider-Thompson funeral and cremation services of Ronan is assisting the family.
