Heiner finishes third at state cross country

KALISPELL — Ronan Chief Brant Heiner finished his prep cross country career with a third-place finish and all-state accolades at the State A cross country championships at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell on Friday.

Heiner crossed the finish line with a time of 16:46.80, helping the Chiefs finish fifth in the overall team standings. Teammate Michael Irvine also earned all-state honors with his 15th- place finish. Mason Sloan nabbed Class A all-state honors and a 12th-place finish for the Polson Pirates with a time of 16:59.48. The Pirates claimed ninth place as a team.

For the Class A girls, in the team point standings, the Lady Pirates placed fifth. With a time of 20:32.08, Lady Pirate top-finisher Halle Heninger notched all-state honors with a 15th-place finish. Olivia Heiner was the top runner for the Ronan Maidens, placing 29th overall.

In Class B, both Thomas Nuila and Andrew Rush earned all-state honors with a ninth and 14th-place finish, respectively for the Mission Bulldogs. As a team, the Bulldogs placed eighth in team points. 

The Lady Bulldogs placed 11th as a team. Cedar Hunt led the Lady Bulldogs across the finish line with an 18th-place finish.

Top finishers for the Arlee Scarlets included Princess Bolen, placing 90th and Warrior Sage Nicolai finishing 86th.

For Class C Charlo, Viking Hayden Smith and Lady Viking Guinevere Contreras placed 55th in their respective race categories.
