Mission Valley well represented on all-state, all-conference teams

LAKE COUNTY –— The Montana High School Association announced the 2020 All-State and All-Conference football team selections last week, and 26 Mission Valley prep-gridiron players earned postseason recognition. 

The Mission High School football team had two players named to the All-State Western Eight Man football team, as well as eight players on the Western C All-Conference team. The two all-state players were senior Layne Spidel and sophomore Bryce Umphrey.

Spidel received first-team all-conference selection for his play at running back and defensive end. Umphrey earned first-team all-conference accolades as the wide receiver and second-team all-conference recognition as a defensive back and punt returner.

Other Mission Bulldog players landing on the second-team all-conference list were quarterback Kellen McClure, defensive end Dawson DuMont, center Lalo Bravo and Canyon Sargent. Sargent also earned multiple selections for his play as a wide receiver and outside linebacker. Charley Adams, as slot back and kick returner, and Ian Killorn, as an inside linebacker and on the offensive line, also earned multiple second-team all-conference selections. 

Arlee Warrior Colt Crawford was an All-State Western Eight Man football honoree as running back. Crawford earned first-team all-conference honors as running back and all-conference second-team recognition as an inside linebacker. 

Arlee punter Noah Coulson was named to the all-conference second-team. Charlo Viking running back Roper Edwards finished his senior season with an all-conference second-team selection. Viking teammates wide receiver Phil Marquez, inside linebacker Nate Clark, slotback Tucker Love and defensive back Coyle Nagy all joined Edwards as all-conference second-team selections. In Class A, Polson Pirate Jarret Wilson and Pirate Colton Graham each received Western A All-State and first-team Western A All-Conference honors.

According to the stats, tabulated by online service Maxprep, Wilson racked up 3,115 yards passing yards on 256 completions, and he threw 32 touchdowns on 12 interceptions, posting a season ending QB rating of 95.3 percent. Wilson also carried the ball 89 times for 327 yards and four touchdowns.

Graham, Polson’s leading receiver, posted 1,056 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 68 receptions, and he averaged 15.5 yards per reception.

Receiving all-conference second-team selections for the Pirates were wide receiver Xavier Fisher, defensive lineman Braunson Henriksen, linebacker Trent Wilson and defensive back Boston Goode. Senior center Ethan Cunningham picked up an all-conference honorable mention nod for the Pirates.

For the Ronan Chiefs, Trapper McAllister nabbed both defense and offense all-conference second-team selections for his play as defensive back and wide receiver. Daniel Kelsch was named to the all-conference second-team as defensive back. Offensive lineman Jason Rodda and defensive back Caleb Cheff received all-conference honorable mention recognition.
