LAKE COUNTY – Thanksgiving community feasts were a little different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Community meals across the valley are usually held in large dining rooms with people sitting together, but this year, people took the time to be thankful from their vehicles as they picked up their turkey dinners curbside.

In St. Ignatius, on Thanksgiving Day, a smidge more than 100 turkey dinners with all the fixings were served by pick-up at the senior center. In Ronan, 275 hot turkey meals were distributed in the Boys and Girls Club parking lot.

In Polson, starting around noon, dozens of cars began lining up outside the Elks Lodge, located on Main Street, to pick up their turkey dinner via drive-thru. “In under three and a half hours we delivered and served 1,182 meals,” said Polson Community Thanksgiving Dinner coordinator Tracy Plaiss. “We had cars lined up all the way down Main Street to Highway 93.”

Plaiss said it took 50 turkeys, which equaled roughly 1,000 pounds of meat, to feed everyone. “We had less than a half of a turkey left at the end of the day,” said Plaiss.
