POLSON — Rodeo fans can get another fix at the Flathead River Indian National Finals Tour Rodeo from Aug. 23-25.
Sponsored by the Best Western KwaTaqNuk Resort and Casino and Gray Wolf Peak Casino, the INFR brings about 500 competitors to the Polson Fairgrounds and 2,000 people to town, according to Stacy Keihn, executive director of marketing sales. With only two rodeos left to qualify for the INFR finals in Las Vegas, Nev., contestants are ready to ride, rope and wrestle.
With more than $55,000 added in cash and prizes and a $5,000 purse per event and $10,000 for team roping, the Flathead River INFR is a lucrative event for Indian cowgirls and cowboys.
Elmo McDonald and Pete White, Ronan, own Pistol Creek Rodeo Company and will be providing some of the stock for the rodeo.
All performances begin each evening Aug. 23-25 at 6:30 p.m., and slack is scheduled at 8 a.m. on Aug. 24. A short go, with the top 12 placers, will be held on Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. Junior and senior events will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25 at noon, one go only.
Admission is $10 at the gate, $8 in advance or $20 for a weekend pass.
