Man faces two trial dates for car thefts

A Polson man is accused of stealing two vehicles in the Polson area. Matthew Logan Semsak, 32, entered a plea of not guilty at District Court in Polson on Dec. 9 to felony counts of theft and burglary.
Semsak already had a trial date set for May 3 on one count of felony theft stemming from a separate vehicle theft in August of 2019.
According to court records, on Aug. 12, 2019, a Polson couple reported the theft of their 2002 Honda CRV. Polson police issued an “attempt to locate” on the vehicle to area law enforcement. Police in Kalispell located the vehicle later that day with Semsak behind the wheel. He was arrested.
In the second matter, on July 18, 2020, a Polson man reported that his 2007 Chevy Silverado had been stolen, and again, Polson police issued an attempt to locate. Police quickly located the Silverado in the parking lot of the Polson Walmart.
Surveillance video, at the store, shows Semsak as the person who parked the Silverado in the parking lot and walked into the store. Police located Semsak inside the store and arrested him.
Polson police reported that Semsak was in possession of the keys to the Silverado and the door opener for the garage where the Silverado was kept. Owners of each of the stolen vehicles did not know Semsak, nor did they give him permission to drive their vehicles.
A trial date of May 3 was already set for the theft of the Honda. Judge James Manley set a trial date of June 1 in the Silverado case.
