POLSON — Polson Commissioners got the scoop on activities planned for the community at their April 4 meeting.

Kelly Ware, Jason Moore and Bud Papin presented information promoting local food production and their plan for public gardens and gardening classes in Polson. They did not want any action from commissioners. Ware, Papin and Moore announced free, hands-on classes on permaculture on Monday evening at the Art Bistro at 4 p.m. followed by a raw foods dinner. Ware added that the group would like to get gardens started at all area churches.

While green and growing gardens will help make Polson pretty, local business people Jackie Cripe, Penny Jarecki and Paul London and their Beautification Committee have a plan to really make Polson sparkle. Cripe asked Mayor Pat DeVries to issue a proclamation declaring April 30 and May 1 Polson “Clean Up, Green Up” Days.

Volunteers will meet at Riverside Park on April 30 at 9 a.m. to hand out garbage bags and gloves and attend a ribbon cutting ceremony with the mayor and then disperse to clean up Polson.

Cripe’s committee has proposed a competition between wards, led by commissioners, with a traveling trophy for the winner. The beautification committee also asked for help from the Polson police, fire and parks departments. Workers will receive tickets for the culmination, a hot dog roast at 5 p.m. on May 1 at Riverside Park.

Commissioners approved the transfer of a beer and wine license from Isabel’s Fastest Gourmet in the West to Moby’s Bistro LLC.

The next city commissioners meeting is set for April 18 at 7 p.m. in commissioner's chambers at Polson City Hall.
