ARLEE — The Arlee Warriors and Scarlets basketball teams hoped to edge in a few more wins last week but the points just didn’t come in.

New head coach Shawn Matt watched the Class B Warriors hardwood action open on Tuesday, Feb. 2, on the road against the Class A Ronan Chiefs. The game was looking good for the coach as the Warriors led 12-11 after the first quarter, but the Chiefs’ defense held Arlee’s offense to just 21 points during the remainder of the game and the Warriors lost 71-32. Sophomore Hunter Brown led the Warriors in scoring with eight points.

On Friday, Levi Fullerton scored a Warrior team-high 17 points followed by Trey Malatare with 12 points in an 87-56 conference road loss to the Florence-Carlton Falcons.

The Warriors nearly picked up their first win of the season against the Mission Bulldogs on the road Saturday, but the Bulldogs prevailed 56-50 after fending off a late fourth-quarter 15-10 scoring surge by the Warriors. The 0-9 Warriors prepare to battle the hosting Anaconda Copperheads.

The Scarlets booked their first win of the season on a 49-42 victory over the Deer Lodge Lady Wardens on Saturday, Jan. 30 after a 0-6 season record. On Tuesday, Feb. 2, the Scarlets hosted the Ronan Maidens in a non-conference match. The Maidens outpaced Arlee 60-14. Halle Adams scored a team-high six points.

The Scarlets fell 68-22 in a B District road game against the Florence-Carlton Lady Falcons on Friday. Lark Thomas paced the Scarlets with a team-high eight points.

On Saturday the Scarlets hosted the Mission Lady Bulldogs. The Scarlets lagged behind 17-10 in the first quarter. Mission maintained their lead at the half, 33-13. The Scarlets’ hopes for a second win on the season evaporated in a 77-30 loss to the Lady Bulldogs.
