Second woman convicted in robbery case

An Elmo woman was sentenced at District Court in Polson on Feb. 17 to the Montana State Women’s Prison for two years with no time suspended on one count of felony robbery.
D’anja Lesly Charlo, 19, entered a guilty plea to robbery by way of a plea agreement, reached on Dec. 9, that dismissed one count of criminal possession of dangerous drugs and one count of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
According to court records, on July 27, 2020, a Ronan man reported to law enforcement that he had just been robbed by two women. He described one of the women as having red hair. He said that the two fled in an orange Chevy truck.
A Ronan police officer located a vehicle driving south on U. S. Highway 93 that matched the description given by the victim, and a woman with red hair was driving. The officer pursued the vehicle, and the orange Chevy truck sped up and turned east onto Eagle Pass trail.
After a short pursuit, the two suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot but were eventually located and arrested. The officer also located numerous $20 bills around the abandoned truck and other items belonging to the victim.
The suspect with red hair, Kirsten Fairchild, 19, told the officer that they had gone to the Ronan residence to borrow money from the victim and he tried to rape her. Charlo was in possession of a mobile phone that contained text messages proving the two had planned the robbery.
Fairchild was already convicted for her role in the matter and committed to the state Department of Corrections for a total of seven years with four years suspended. She was ordered to pay restitution of $3,762.96. Judge Manley ordered restitution of $1,749.98 in Charlo’s case.
